The BBC 16W is also known as the perforadora PUMA BBC 16W in the Peruvian market. After the Boart Longyear Seco 250 Drill (RMT 250), BBC 16W is one of the most popular drills used in Peru.
It comes with the standard shank of 22 x 108 mm, similar to SECO 250. Thus, similar rock drilling tools can be used in both the tools.

The BBC 16W is used for both development drilling (advancing new headings and drifts as a mine expands) and production drilling (drilling blast holes in established stopes to extract ore).

For tunnel and drift construction, the BBC 16W is used for horizontal and angled blast hole drilling as the tunnel face advances. This includes civil tunnelling projects as well as mine access tunnels and drifts. At 2,340 blows per minute, the BBC 16W drills faster than the lighter RH 656 4W (2,040 bpm). Though it is a bit heavier in comparison to the RH 656W (28.5 kg vs 22 kg) for stronger impact — a reasonable choice where medium-to-hard rock needs more consistent penetration.
